Dr. Donald F. Runion Jr.
Pastor
He earned a bachelor's degree from Baylor University in Waco, Texas, and the Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degrees from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky. He has served as pastor of the 3,000 members of Mount Vernon Baptist Church since September 1, 1981.

Randy Markel
Associate Pastor for Pastoral Care
Randy Markel, who has served at Mount Vernon Baptist Church since 1996, is the Associate Pastor for Pastoral Care. He was the Minister of Music (August 1996 – June 2007). He leads and supervises Pastoral Care staff and volunteers in a plan of ministry consistent with the mission and vision of the church and in conjunction with the Deacon Partnership Committee.
He earned a bachelor's degree in music education from Florida State University and a Master of Church Music from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Randy and his wife, Carol, have 2 children and 5 grandchildren. His hobbies include trumpet playing, music, tennis, reading and traveling. His hometown is Miami, Florida and his home church is Flagler Street Baptist Church (baptized in 1957).

He has been in the ministry for over 35 years. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree from the College of William & Mary, a Master of Arts Degree from Union Theological Seminary and Presbyterian School of Christian Education and a Doctorate in Business Administration from Southern California University. Jimmie and his wife, Sharon, have 3 grown children, 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Kimberly Braine-Tillem
Minister for Children & Families
She earned her Bachelor's degree from Virginia Tech in Family & Child Development with an emphasis in Child Care Administration and her Master’s degree from Liberty University in Human Services with an emphasis in Marriage & Family Therapy. She is also the President and Founder of The Sophie House, a local nonprofit organization dedicated to providing housing, healing, encouragement and hope for women and children in the Metro Richmond area. Kimberly and her husband, Michael, have four children, Jeremy, Kaeler, Nathaniel and Garrett.

Jean Grubbs
Administrative Assistant to the Pastor
Jean Grubbs serves as secretary to the Pastor. She has officially worked for the church since 1972 and volunteered as office assistant for 10 years prior to employment.
Jean attended the Medical College of Virginia School of X-Ray Technology. She became a Registered X-Ray Technician, working in the X-Ray office at MCV with medical reports for five years.
She married John Grubbs on January 6, 1951. They have two grown children, four grandchildren and one dog. She enjoys growing flowers, gardening, knitting, crocheting and working jigsaw puzzles.

Child Enrichment Center (CEC) Head of School
Darie (rhymes with Marie) Lee serves as the Head of School for the Child Enrichment Center. She has served in Children's Ministry in churches in KY, SC and VA since 1993. As Head of School, her responsibilities include providing ministries and spiritual guidance for the staff, children and families of the Child Enrichment Center (CEC).
Darie earned a bachelor's degree from Georgetown (Ky.) College and a Master of Divinity in Christian Education from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky. She was ordained by FBC Mauldin in 2010. Her hometown is Hopkinsville, Ky.

Bob Boteler
Director of Finance
Bob currently serves Mount Vernon as a Deacon, sings with the adult and Young at Heart Choirs, and is a teacher for the Faith Class and for the Singles. As Director of Finance for Mount Vernon, he is responsible for all financial aspects of the church and accounting operations to include providing monthly financial reports and updates to the Stewardship Committee, presenting financial reports at churchwide business meetings, preparing quarterly financial reports for compliance with bank loan agreements and for reviewing and updating accounting policies and procedures. Bob is a 1964 graduate of the University of Alabama with a B.S. in Accounting. Over his 45 year accounting career he has worked for the City of Atlanta; in various controller positions with Leaseway Transportation Corporation in Atlanta, Chicago, Columbus, and Philadelphia; Controller for Genicom Corporation in Waynesboro, VA.; and as Manager of General Ledger Accounting for Hunton & Williams in Richmond, VA. Bob and his wife Pam live in Mechanicsville, VA, and have been members of Mount Vernon since 1992. They have a daughter and 3 grandchildren living in Miami, FL and a daughter living in Denver, CO.

Kim Gilbert
Worship Arts Associate
Kim is responsible for running the childrens' and youth music programs, including KidJAM, Youth Choir & Youth Praise Band. Kim is a board certified music therapist (MT-BC), having graduated from Radford University in 1991. She grew up in Bloomsburg, Pa. She is married to Chris Gilbert, and they have 2 girls: Lauren, age 14 and Katie, age 11. Kim enjoys playing the piano, guitar, and clarinet. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, aerobics, and golfing.
Dee Yarbrough
Financial Assistant
Dee has been on staff since November 2011, but has been a member here since June 2006. She is a 1987 graduate of Virginia Tech with a B.S. in Accounting, and worked in the corporate, private, and government sectors prior to 15 years as a stay at home mom. She is also a part-time Group Exercise instructor and serves in many ministries at Mount Vernon including Worship Arts, Students, and Women. Dee has been happily married to her husband, David, for over 25 years and is the proud mother of Zack and Josh.

Susan is married to Joey, and they have four children and one granddaughter. The Sharon family moved to Ashland two years ago from Northern Virginia, and they are loving life in Central Virginia!

Clara is originally from Oak Hill, West Virginia. She is married to John Epperly and has one son,
Gordon Gregory, daughter-in-law Janelle, and two grandchildren. Clara worked in the furniture industry prior to coming to Mount Vernon. She has been a member of Mount Vernon since 1989. Her passion is singing especially in the MVBC choir. She enjoys photography, painting, gardening, and exercise.

Reneé Carter
Assistant to Children & Student Ministries
Reneé Carter is the Assistant for Children & Student Ministries. She graduated from Radford University in 1985 with a Bachelor’s degree in Insurance. She received her teaching certificate from the University of Richmond in 2005. Reneé has worked in the insurance industry and taught school. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio. She has two daughters who attend college and dance professionally. Her hobbies include golf, bowling and tennis.

Jessica Benson
Childcare Coordinator, MOPS & Women’s Min. Asst.
Jessica has worked at MVBC since February 2002, as the Childcare Coordinator. Her role includes scheduling childcare for varying events and ensuring appropriate classrooms, ratios and curriculum are available for the children. In January 2012, Jessica’s role once again changed and while she continues to be the Childcare Coordinator, she is now Administrative Assistant for Women’s Ministry and Church Attendance.
Jessica earned her bachelor's degree at Radford (Va.) University. She is from Meherrin, Va., and her home church is Victoria (Va.) Baptist Church, although she and her husband, Craig, are members at Mount Vernon.

Radford Moneymaker
Cemetary Caretaker
Radford Moneymaker has worked for Mount Vernon Memorial Park for eight years. He maintains the beauty of the cemetery, provides services for all funerals and maintains the equipment.
Radford's hometown is Charlottesville, Va. He attended Miller School and technical schools. He is married to Pat and they have two children: their son, Brian, and his family live in Glen Allen, Va., and his daughter, Kim Murphy, and her family live in Staunton, Va. Radford's hobby is golf.
When asked to describe his job responsibilities in one sentence, Radford replies: "I cut grass and weed-eat stones and sidewalks, weed flower beds, clean up trash, take down dead trees and dispose of them, and mark grave sites, put up tents and chairs and take them down, clean out vaults and niches for funerals, put up name plates and flower vases, trim bushes, plant flowers, set head stones and benches, get fuel for mowers and trimmers, service two lawnmowers, sharpen blades and make repairs or take them to the shop if necessary and work on a dump truck and fill in grave sites and place flowers on sites, raise and lower head stones as they settle, then take the dead flowers away and top off graves and seed grave sites, and clean head stones and streets and sidewalks after mowing, and sometimes dig grave sites for babies or cremation and service the lift for caskets in the mausoleum, and go to Grappones to take and pick up name stones in front of the mausoleum, and get parts and oil and other supplies we need to operate and clean with, and take trash to the dump; put names on nameplates, lock and unlock the mausoleum on Saturday morning and close it on Saturday night, assist with funerals by actually putting caskets and cremains in vaults, and I'm on call at all times. This is most of what Dayton and I do, and this is also the longest sentence I have ever written."

Anne Winston
Church Organist
Anne Winston has served as organist of Mount Vernon Baptist Church since May 1974. She joined Mount Vernon in 1964. As organist, she plays for the Classic Worship Service at 11 a.m. on Sundays. She also serves as accompanist for the Young At Heart Choir. She accompanies soloists and groups for various functions, and she plays for weddings and funerals at Mount Vernon when requested.
Anne also plays for funerals, weddings, and concerts at church and in the community.
Anne is married to Ken Winston, who serves as a greeter at Mount Vernon on Sunday mornings. Their family includes three children and their spouses plus five grandchilden ranging in age from 5 years old to 23 years old.
Anne was born and raised in Fluvanna County, Va., and her home church is Beaver Dam Baptist Church near Charlottesville, Va., on Broad St. Road.
Anne also plays for funerals, weddings, and concerts at church and in the community.
